History of Harvest Bank

Harvest Bank came together over time. It started small and grew customer by customer and community by community, the way most good things in rural Minnesota do.

Where We Started

Our story begins in 1901, with the founding of the State Bank of Kimball. It weathered the bank failures that swept Central Minnesota in the 1930s, even growing through the hard years by acquiring the failing People's Bank of South Haven in 1933.

In 1985, the Meyerson family, owners of Atwater State Bank, purchased the State Bank of Kimball. For nearly three decades, the two banks operated as sister banks, each keeping its own identity while sharing management and capital behind the scenes. Kimball opened a branch in Saint Augusta in 1990; Atwater followed with one in Kandiyohi in 2007. In 2013, the two banks with four locations came together as Harvest Bank.

Bringing Citizens State Bank into the Family

Months before that 2013 name change, the Meyersons purchased Citizens State Bank of Waverly and its Montrose branch. Founded in 1907, and long stewarded by the Graham family, CSB of Waverly also survived the Depression and grew with its town. It operated as a sister bank to Harvest – much as Atwater and Kimball once had – until February of 2026, when Waverly and Montrose officially became Harvest Bank branches.

Harvest Bank Today

That's six communities, one bank, and well over a century of Minnesota roots. Today Harvest Bank serves customers in Atwater, Kandiyohi, Kimball, Montrose, Saint Augusta, and Waverly – still locally owned, still community-minded, and still growing the way we always have: one relationship at a time.
