Commercial and Agricultural Credit Analyst
Compensation: $52,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
Overview
We're seeking a detail-oriented Commercial and Agricultural Credit Analyst to join our community bank's lending team. In this role, you'll support commercial and agricultural loan officers by analyzing borrower financial data, assessing creditworthiness, and helping structure sound lending decisions that serve the businesses, farms, and families in our community.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants hands-on exposure to both commercial and ag lending in a community bank environment where relationships and local knowledge matter.
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Waverly, MN or potentially at another branch depending on the successful applicant’s skills and background.
Competitive salary ranging from $52,000–$70,000 per year depending on experience, plus eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Analysis & Underwriting Support
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow projections for commercial and agricultural loan applicants.
- Prepare written credit analyses and risk assessments to support loan officer recommendations.
- Spread financial statements and calculate key ratios (debt service coverage, working capital, leverage, liquidity).
- Assist in evaluating collateral, including real estate, equipment, livestock, and crops.
Portfolio Monitoring & Compliance
- Help monitor existing loan portfolios for covenant compliance, renewal needs, and early signs of credit deterioration.
- Support structuring of loan terms and conditions in accordance with bank policy and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with annual reviews, renewals, and loan file documentation for commercial and ag relationships.
- Ensure compliance with bank policies, loan documentation standards, and applicable banking regulations.
Internal Collaboration
- Build working knowledge of agricultural market conditions, commodity prices, and industry trends affecting borrowers.
- Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, and credit administration on loan packaging and approval.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, agricultural business, economics, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in credit analysis, commercial lending, agricultural lending, or a related financial role.
- Working knowledge of financial statement analysis and cash flow basics.
- Exposure to agricultural operations, farm financial cycles, and/or commodity markets is a plus, but not required.
- Comfortable working in Microsoft Excel; willingness to learn loan origination or credit analysis software.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a lending team.
Working Conditions
- Standard office environment with routine computer use.
- Occasional overtime may be required during peak lending periods.

This role is ideal for someone who is eager to learn the fundamentals of consumer and commercial lending, values relationship banking, and wants to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
As part of a locally owned and operated bank with deep roots in Central Minnesota, you will gain hands-on experience supporting our lending team across a variety of loan types — including business loans, agricultural financing, mortgages, personal loans, and home equity lines of credit — while building a strong foundation in banking and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all loan assistant duties as requested by the Bank’s loan officers. Ensure complete and accurate information on various reports and loan documents
- Assist the loan department with the various stages of the loan process, file maintenance and perfection of collateral
- Have knowledge of the products and services that the bank provides. Cross sell Bank services to maximize customer relationships
- Work as a team player to achieve the goals of the loan department and the Bank as a whole
- Ensure all loan activities align with the bank’s policies and regulatory requirements
- Other duties may be assigned as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior banking, financial, accounting or bookkeeping experience is preferred
- Ability to comprehend loan documentation requirements
- High level of personal accountability and regard for confidentiality
- Focused, organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, able to prioritize work and capable of working with minimal direction using proactive problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
